Custom Hydraulic Test Stand

Opportunity: The customer needed to have a test stand to confirm reliability and functionality of hydraulic and electrical products used in public transportation systems. By integrating all the resources needed to complete the test in a single test stand, it allows the technician to oversee the whole test in one procedure without the need for multiple stations. The test stand is also accommodating to different products so multiple series of products can be tested in one station. This test stand can perform both electrical and hydraulic testing, as well as provide various electrical power sources for portable Hydraulic Power Units and electromechanical systems.

Customer Profile: OEM in the Railroad Industry

The customer is a manufacturer for the Railroad Industry, specifically HVAC, braking, door, and suspension systems. They also provide repair and preventative maintenance testing on existing systems to confirm functionality. Due to these products being utilized in public transportation, extensive testing procedures are required to ensure that the products, either new or repaired, can be reliable under all conditions. Similarly, the test stand for ensuring this reliability would need to be accurate and consistent with each testing procedure.



Test Stand Capabilities:


The test stand is designed to test hydraulic and electrical components by providing visual confirmation through the use of hydraulic gauges or an electrical oscilloscope. All manipulation of the hydraulic and electrical circuits is completed through the panels you see on the back surface of the Test Stand.

By integrating multiple hydraulic circuits within the Test Stand, the technician can simulate various testing scenarios by simple connecting a hydraulic hose (provided with the test stand) from their product to that circuit via the Hydraulic Panel (seen on the right side). All hose connections for these circuits are quick disconnecting and located at the bottom of the Hydraulic Panel to allow all gauges to be seen at any point of the testing procedure. Also, any manipulation of the circuit, via shutoff valve or directional valve, is easily accessible on the Hydraulic Panel and located by the corresponding gauge for that circuit. All components mounted on the Hydraulic Panel are clearly labeled to streamline and simplify otherwise complicated testing procedures.

The test stand can provide both hydraulic and electrical power by connecting a single 3-phase 440 VAC power cable. Within the test stand are three power transformers, which provide the electrical needs of the various components that can be tested on the stand. A self-contained Hydraulic Power Unit provides up to 3000 PSI of hydraulic pressure and can be easily controlled through a relief valve mounted directly on the Hydraulic Panel.

A digital oscilloscope located in the Electrical Panel can read out pressure transducer outputs and pressure switch voltages to confirm that the component is working properly. This screen image can then be transmitted directly to the printer, also located in the Electrical Panel, which will give the technician a physical print out of the signal as shown on the oscilloscope. The printer is simple to maintain since the ink and paper access is through the front interface, which eliminates the need to disassemble the Electrical Panel any time the printer runs out of resources.
