RG Group’s Investment in People (Part 1)

Evaluating employees and determining who should be promoted is one of the most rewarding and challenging parts of my job.

We all like to hear the success stories of someone coming into a company in an entry-level position and moving up the ranks. However what we don’t like to talk about are all of the times that companies promote beyond someone’s abilities; the individual is taken from a role that they excel in and are put in a role that they fail in. That is the scenario that I strive to avoid at all costs.

People are critical to the success of our organization and for us to continue our success for another 60 years, we need to make sure we have the right people in the right place at the right time.

SO HOW DO WE DO THAT?

How do we make sure we do not fall victim to the Peter Principle?

Unfortunately there is not a 100% fail-safe approach; however, we at RG Group have implemented a Talent Review Process across all departments to evaluate each individual employee on not only their performance in their current role but also their potential for future career opportunities.

This talent review process is a collaborative effort among leadership that allows us as an organization to calibrate talent, identify cross-departmental growth opportunities and ensure that each individual employee is provided ongoing feedback, development and learning opportunities.

Through this Talent Review Process, we hope to continuously improve on our talent development and succession planning efforts.

Check back in October to see my next installment on people development that will be focused on how we evaluate potential at RG Group!
